I’ve had a lot of time for reflection lately, and one of the songs that I have stumbled upon that has helped me process the last few months of life has been Laura Story’s ‘God of Every Story.’ I’ve always been inspired by this songwriter’s lyrics, but more than her lyrics, I’ve been touched by her story. As you may know, as a young wife, they found out that her husband had a brain tumor, which led to memory loss and other disabilities. I heard her share part of her book ‘When God Doesn’t Fix it’ earlier this week and was touched again by her mature attitude as she continues to live with the challenges of life with a grateful, joyful heart. She has had her share of opportunities to learn the lesson of James 1:2-4 (to consider it PURE JOY as we encounter trials of various kinds…) and she gives me the courage to continue fighting and choosing joy, even on days when I am tired and would rather just complain.
“…But He hears when we call
We can trust him through it all.
He’s the God of every story,
He sees each tear that falls.
We may not understand but one thing is certain.
He is faithful, He’s a faithful God.
His ways are higher
Than we could ever comprehend.
When our world is shaking,
He holds us in the palm of His hand.
You’re the God of every story,
No matter what I’m going through.
I may not understand, You are God and I am just a man.
Yeah I’m forever trusting in Your plan.
One thing is certain
You are faithful, You’re faithful God.”
