Great is Thy Faithfulness…

Don’t you love those moments where you can almost feel the Holy Spirit at work in a tangible way?  I had that experience today while walking at the gym.  I had just left my first Sh’bam aerobics class in 18 months and tho thrilled to be given doctor’s clearance for this class, I was disappointed that I couldn’t do more.  I was bummed to have to leave the class early, I couldn’t do steps full out since I’m not to do high-impact for awhile, and was overall feeling discouraged.  Just when I was about to start dwelling on the negative, I heard a new thought flash through my mind- a fresh perspective focusing on how far I’ve come.

Suddenly, it was like God was downloading a whole new picture for me to focus on: “Remember where you were last year at this time?  Do you remember when you could hardly walk up the stairs some days?  Do you remember all the naps and rest you required just to get through a work week?  You would’ve done anything to have 30 min. of extra energy for a gym class last year!  How wonderful that you have the energy to even make it to the gym now.  What significant progress you’ve made in a year.”

And just like that, my perspective changed and I started focusing on all the progress I’ve made this year.  By the end of my short walk I was almost in tears- tears of joy and gratitude- reflecting on God’s faithfulness to me every step of this healing journey.  Indeed, I had so much to be thankful for.  And in minutes, I was no longer discouraged by what I couldn’t do, but was encouraged by how much I CAN do.

I heard the hymn Great is Thy Faithfulness when I was scrolling through facebook today, and it seemed like the perfect title for this blog.  God has been so faithful, even today at the gym.  He cares so deeply about the inner parts of our lives.  He knew my innermost thoughts and feelings and lovingly came in, led me to a new perspective, and changed the course of my day.

This reminds me of Romans 12:2 “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

new-think

How is your mind-set today?  Are you focused on the past, what you can’t do, and what you’re disappointed about? or are you focused on God’s perspective, the positive, and maintaining a growth-mindset?

If you need an attitude or mind-set adjustment like I did today, be encouraged!  God is always ready to help us think a better thought and choose His perspective.  His Word is filled with encouragement and His Spirit is a wonderful Teacher, guiding us into the Truth.

May we always be listening and ready to respond when the Holy Spirit wants to renew our minds to think more like Jesus.  My entire day has been positive, hopeful, and uplifting since that walk and attitude adjustment at the gym.  Praise God for His love and power to transform our minds and change our days! 🙂
