Sometimes the little things ARE the big things

Have you ever read an article that made you think, “WOW”! What an amazing non-profit touching the lives of the poor or orphaned children. Or you hear in the news about how firefighters saved a family’s life. Maybe it’s just a Guidepost article, but it hits you the wrong way and you end up feeling small, like your little life and corner of the world doesn’t really matter. I know I can relate!

I was reminded today of a phrase Heidi Baker (missionary to Mozambique) is famous for:

“Love the person in front of you.” Read that again. It’s profound. If we all loved the person in front of us, imagine what a world we would live in!

I want to encourage you today to remember that courage comes in many forms. There is no act of kindness too small. There is no loving act of service that doesn’t matter. Your effort, your love, your sacrifice of time and energy does matter- to God and the person you are serving.

So don’t give up on the little things! Keep wiping the counters at the gas station restroom to make it cleaner for the next person. Keep paying for random people’s food in the drive thru. And never underestimate the power of a loving phone call, prayer, card, or gift for someone facing a hard time. We can all find simple ways to love the person in front of us.
